Almost any main character from anybook could fall into one of those categories.

Haha, I was "writing a book in my head" for several years where the main character would have definitely fell into that category. Thank heaven I was smart enough never to put it on paper where it might fall into the wrong hands (ie. ANY hands). Happily that will forever remain unwritten.

However I don't think Kvothe fell into the "mary sue" category. He made stupid mistakes and wasn't always likeable. Things did not always go right for him. At least that is how I am remembering the book.

Since I am encouraging dissenting opinions I will have to put in my own. Regarding the comment somewhere above about the "prose", for me the "prose" was a huge selling point. I loved what he did with words. Please don't shun me. :D
