I generally liked the bizarre melange of characters and timeframes, but I had a pretty high suspension of disbelief built up. Simmons has this really bizarre way of making something amazing and then just kind of petering out. He did the same with Ilium (OH MY GOD SO COOL) and then Olympos (...wat?).
