So yeah. I see what you mean and I agree with most of it, but I'd still probably recommend it to my friends that can read fast and move on without wasting too much time on it. 
I actually "read" Fall of Hyperion via Audiobook, which means I couldn't read fast and skim over the more boring parts. Plus the narrator has an extremely emotional, melodramatic voice. Perhaps I'd have enjoyed it better as a real read, it's just hard to find time these days. Audiobooks in the car are a good way to fit some books into the schedule.
Anyway, thanks for posting impressions. Glad to see you agree with me, because lately, I haven't gotten much backup when it comes to my book positions.
