the problem is uniforms are about more than everyone dressing the same

The idea that all of your actions while in uniform reflect on everyone else in uniform is pretty deeply ingrained in the military culture. So if you are out there using your uniform to make a political statement that statement reflects on everyone else who wears that uniform. It isn't a question of if the statement is wrong or right it is a question of do you have the right to speak for all the other people wearing the uniform. If they were in uniform speaking out in support of DADT I would still call their actions disrespectful because it isn’t about what they said it is about what they were wearing when they said it.
When they speak for themselves and use their military service let lend it weight that that is fine, they earned it. They can even wear clothes with military symbols on them as long as it isn’t a uniform. The uniform represent all of us and not just all of us now but all those at York Town and Iowa Jima and Hamburger Hill and they damn sure have not earned the right to speak for them.

I'm in favor of repealing DADT, but this made me briefly reconsider
