Hey, I think it's an appalling law. Elaine Send a noteboard - 27/04/2010 02:24:30 PM
but the problem is that that natural citizens have NO requirement to carry ID on them...well until now.

Also, even if there's a rule to carry your green card 24/7, that doesn't mean perfectly legal aliens have them on their person all the time. If I worked the sort of jobs that a lot of latino immigrants do (ie. food service, manual labor, farm work, etc...) I would keep my green card locked in my car, not in my pocket where it could get sweaty and dirty, or (even worse) fall out. If they brought kids with them, it's unlikely their kids carry proof that they're legal aliens.

Anyway, my point is only that even if the "law" requires them to have it on their person 24/, realistically, not everyone does and for reasons that make sense.

You're supposed to always have your driver's ID on you when you drive, as well. But a lot of people forget it on occasion.

I have problems with mandatory ID-carrying in general. I don't like it at all. It's crazy. I was just wondering if I was correct about the green card thing.

I should say that I don't mind having to have my driver's licence on me while driving - that's a different box of frogs entirely.
