Your latter two options are decent, but your first one is, frankly, stupid. If we want to be a respectable site, we should look like one.


If you want to be a respectable site, don't charge people for what they get elsewhere for free.

Every 'respectable' forum out there has advertising of some kind to fund it, with varying levels of obtrusiveness. Advertising makes your website look like garbage only if you let it.
