In terms of the legal challenge, well just because something is voted on doesn't mean it is going to be legal (like a vote to remove legal rights of ginger people wouldn't be legal even if the majority voted for it, sadly). If there was a vote to make same-sex marriage legal in a state, it would be interesting to see if the same people objecting to this going to court would object to it going to court then to decide if it is legal.
And interms of it being revoted, I can see it is an issue for it to be revoted every 6 months in some ways but given that both the attitudes of individuals are in a state of constant change and thatthe actual make up of the voters is also in constant flux then it just makes good democracy to try and get the most up to date position of the voters. So it goes both ways.
