What he did was overestimate the ability of his audience to understand that. But most people passed over it because they wanted to. They were looking for something to jump on and they twisted and cut it so that they had something to whine about.

I am sick to death of people doing crap like this. Apparently, Dostoevsky is right. People find satisfaction in misery. Whatever.
