Well, more objective about our politicians than we are, I think. Joel Send a noteboard - 22/08/2010 05:44:51 PM
I was looking at solely from the perspective of Europeans not losing (much) of their objectivity to identification with our political parties, or constant submersion in our political media. I never considered the fact that's because ya'lls exposure to the minutiae of our politics IN GENERAL is far less.

Most Europeans, except the ones who are really fiscal hawks and/or deeply conservative on social issues, have a general standing preference for the Democrats and dislike of the Republicans, since generally the Democrats will be closer to their stances. So objectivity... eh, wouldn't be so sure of that.
As to the other: OMFG, that's priceless! :D

Yes. I think it's because it was published in the more gossip-y part of the newspaper, and so wasn't actually checked by the foreign department/editor. But it's fairly embarrassing even so - and illustrative in a way: evidently, people who don't really follow American politics but still are, you know, journalists in a respected newspaper, know little enough that they can make gaffes like that.

Which of us is WHOLLY objective? ;)

It's reassuring (I think) to know there are people out there less informed about an American political issue than certain residents of a particular northwestern state though....
