From what I do know... LadyLorraine Send a noteboard - 01/09/2010 07:33:14 PM
Theology aside, it always seemed to me like Jesus cared more about making sure people were treating each other well, than being worshiped as God-incarnate (didn't he actually tell people not to worship him?).

However, the Christianity I actually see (which is what I'm referring to as Christianity-by-Apostle. I didn't necessarily mean them specifically, btw) seems to be MUCH more focused on Jesus's Divinity, less on God himself (focusing instead on Jesus). Despite the fact Jesus talked about following God and loving thy neighbor, I see/hear a religion that follows Jesus (and through the Trinity, God, but sometimes that almost sounds like sneakily not worshiping God) and cares more about theology and the magical-forgiveness-ticket, than deeds.

Blagh. I'm not really explaining myself very well. It just appears to me that Jesus cared far more for people behaving in a loving manner, while the Christian religion cares more for Jesus' divine actions than what his actual message was.

Kind of like a really awesome professor who teaches this amazing class full of information!! And then in the middle of the semester, he dies in a car wreck. He would want his students to remember the knowledge...his students just remember that he died in a car wreck on the way to teach them. His substitutes spend more time talking about how awesome the professor was than actually teaching the course material, or they teach their own course material, and if the students don't praise the Professor enough, the Dean won't let them graduate even if they pass the class.

Does that make sense? >_>

I hope so. As I said, this is just how I see it from what I know and what I see and hear. Most of my religious knowledge comes from "common knowledge", a small smattering of my own readings, here, and church at Christmas with my grandparents. It could be my ideas line up with only a few or no christian sects. That's cool. If you, Ghav, Danny, whoever, want to share your knowledge, that's fine with me :)
