Assuming for a minute that all of Christian theology is true, God is essentially the sort of "ruler" (so to speak) who says "WORSHIP ME OR I SMITE YOU WITH FIRE AND PAIN AND RAAAGH"
Honestly, I'm not sure I want to follow a being like that. They don't sound very loving and I probably wouldn't enjoy a heaven decided by such an entity.

presumes that there's a third option. I totally hate to be the black cloud on the horizon...but this is reality. You will face this reality someday.
You are characterizing it as "worship me or I will smite you". Its not like that at all. You are envisoning a carrot or stick situation...when its nothing like that at all. Think of it more as a person who gave everything for you, loved you to the extent that He died for you, and wants to spend forever with you...all you have to say is that you love him back. Instead, you look him right in the eye, say that his sacrifice is meaningless, that you don't love him, and you walk away.
Its not God smiting you....its you smiting yourself. God's not holding a gun to your head and saying "love me or I pull the trigger". Instead, you are holding the gun to your own head, and God is saying "Please don't...I made a way for us to be together."
