Still keeping my US citizenship though. Joel Send a noteboard - 11/09/2010 09:53:05 PM
Is it because there is less of an obsession with braces here? The dentistry of the NHS is certainly no worse than the private dental care in Norway.

I know jack about private dental care in Norway, apart from the fact that's the only kind there is. I've been told there's no private dental insurance, but no public dental insurance either once you turn 18; it's all out of pocket. Given the way the medical industry in general and dentistry in particular operates that seems an extremely costly approach; am I missing something? I'm actually contemplating the prospect of flying home for dental care after COBRA kicks in because if it's all out of pocket, and given how much more expensive everything is there, even with a $1500 plane ticket it might be cheaper. Not that it will matter a whole lot if I still don't have the money, and my financial obligations aren't the only ones I must consider.

It's not terribly expensive. I go to the dentist once a year for checkups and he always does some minor stuff (I am terrified of dentists, so I prefer minor stuff often to major stuff seldom), and it costs me around 60 pounds. But yes. It is one of the strange things about the Norwegian welfare state. I think a couple of parties have suggested it be included.

OK, thanks. And even from here, it seems odd, yes. IF I could hold dual citizenship I'd certainly vote for it, but Norway doesn't allow it. Fascists. :P
