First - how can possible piercing and tattoos (and probably plastic surgery as well, though that is not mentioned) be a religion?!?!?!?
Second, it seems that the "spiritual experience" comes when getting a piercing/tattoo/whatever, not wearing the ring. She can therefore not claim that it is against her religion to remove the ring for the hours that she spends in school.
Third, shouldn't the child welfare department look into this? The child lives with someone who has body altering as a religion. A nose piercing isn't the end of the world, but the step from there to some irreversible body altering is not a big one. Also, this religion carries with it the assumption that the body that you have isn't good enough; a dangerous idea to give a child/teenager.

Are you larger than yourself maybe?
