I live on the outskirts of Raleigh. First thought: "I bet this happened in Johnston County." Aemon Send a noteboard - 17/09/2010 06:48:41 PM
Aaaaaand I was right. My ex-girlfriend's summation of the place: "Johnston county is the best place in the world to get your car fixed, and the worst place in the world for everything else."

She's basically right. Johnston county is a breeding ground for weirdos, mostly of the redneck variety, so this story doesn't surprise me at all. As far as the issue at hand, I agree that the school doesn't have the authority to determine what constitutes a religion. However, I'd say it's likely this rebel chick just sent in a membership donation to the church-of-stabbing-yourself so she'd have an excuse to wear her jewelry. I'm all for standing up for what you believe in, but I don't have much respect for those who challenge authority just for the heck of it.

If only twas possible to legislate common sense.
