Well, it was an idea for discussion... delivered as an ultimatum, it would be devastating to any chance of reconciliation. Besides, it couldn't hurt to at least look for something else: it'd be ludicrous to quit on the spot without another job lined up.

I saw her say that it's already prompted the most honest discussions between them in years; they should keep rolling with that. To me as an outside observer, it's about creating a whole new relationship from scratch - not repairing an existing one. They've both changed as people over the last 10-12 years, and if it took him cheating on her for them to have a real discussion about themselves and their relationship I have to wonder about the relationship before.

That also doesn't change the fact that I think he copped out by telling her in the first place. He relieved his guilt by telling her, making it her burden instead of his. If he was "real" about it, he would've kept his mouth (and pants) shut and worked more on his marriage rather than burning it down with only the possibility of building anew.
