My girlfriend is from Bolivia, so I'm a little more in tune with it than I used to be. Otherwise, though, most Americans don't think about the place much. We're inundated with terrible news from around the globe, and this continent doesn't happen to be where we're fighting any wars, etc. It's just largely out of our national spotlight.

It's great to hear about the rescue, though. I'm pretty sure it would make even more news if it were in West Virginia, but the same complaints could still be raised. I'd like to chalk this one up to people being starved for good news. I can't really blame them.

I'm likely headed to Peru and Bolivia next year, so I'm trying to learn what I can. One of the miners was Bolivian, too, so the gf was quick to give me details on that one.
