The the key has to come back.
I know that seems a lot but honestly - this has gotten beyond sensible. His dad can still come over WHEN ONE OF YOU IS HOME and help out.
Anything else is too much. As you say, your roommate is an adult and should have sawed through those apron strings long long ago.
My mom would probably have done something like this if I didn't live so far away. She came to visit once and when I spilled a milkshake she started to try and help me clean it up.
I lost it at that point and blew up at her, "Mom, I'm forty years old - I can clean up a milkshake without ANY help, thanks very much!"
(I don't recall if I was 40 or 38 or what it was, but you get my drift. It was some years ago.)

May God stand between you and harm in all the empty places you must walk.

The father needs to find his own drive, but you probably aren't the one to fix that. *NM*
