The FIFA rules really do need to change a good deal, and one has to fear that having the World Cup in several developing countries in a row will make the FIFA only more used to being able to take over the government of the hosting country.

They do. The problem is that it is one of the things on their list of criteria - if you have a Government that is unwilling to let FIFA get what it wants, then it probably isn't going to get the WC.
the problem is there needs to be an end to countries bidding who will give FIFA the conditions it wants and I don't see that happening any time soon:P.

So if it had been in England, the English hooligans could've shown their usefulness to the world for the first and only time ever, by putting an end to those ridiculous FIFA ideas about banning pubs within a mile radius of stadiums from serving other beer than that of the sponsor. Plus, England might actually have done well again for once, which I'd have liked to see.

That is the one thing I have wondered about with Qatar - I think it is one of the more liberal Gulf States but that just means that while there are places to buy alcohol, it has to be done completely off the street. Not sure how big beer ads will go down...

I think you misunderstand. - 02/12/2010 05:39:54 PM 325 Views
That would just be anarchic and really drawn out - 02/12/2010 09:36:48 PM 401 Views
True on both counts, but there's precedent. *NM* - 03/12/2010 05:52:29 PM 124 Views
That would miss the point rather - 02/12/2010 09:39:48 PM 273 Views
