And, yes, we can, that's why we have a criminal justice system that accepts "the devil made me do it" as a valid excuse no more than anyone else should. It recognizes that the heat of the moment can impair judgement and impulse control--and prosecutes people for murder under those circumstances nonetheless, though passion can result in reduced sentences for those found guilty. Unless you're arguing for some form of temporary insanity, however, I don't think your statement holds. On the contrary, I think the ability to control whether we act on our desires rather than being controlled by desire is one of the things that separates humanity from other animals.
