I'm sure this varies by location, but every Borders I've seen has been nothing but an inferior version of B&N. They always seem to be a little bit smaller, and a little less classy (atmosphere/decorations/furniture). Worse still, Borders' sci-fi/fantasy selection is generally awful. The two Barnes and Nobles near me have four two-sided shelves full of sci-fi/fantasy stuff. The Borders stores near me have one each. I haven't been in nearly enough Borders to say this is the same nationwide, but I've been in ten or twelve of them scattered over a few different states, and it's always the same.

Meh. G'bye, Borders. Can't say I'll miss you.

Now if we can just get rid of Dicks Sporting Goods, I'd be a happy guy. :P

the ones that were around when I was growing up were full of tight-assed snobs and rude, uppity employees. I have pretty much always found the books I was looking for in Borders and quite enjoy the more open floor plan, nice chairs spread all over and the staff that doesn't give me dirty looks and leave me alone. Even though I bought a Nook I'll still go to Borders any day for paper books.
But wine was the great assassin of both tradition and propriety...
