Republican spin doctor Frank Luntz popularized "climate change" to make global warming appealing. Joel Send a noteboard - 18/03/2011 01:56:01 PM
Despite Limbaughs claiming otherwise for the sake of questions he ludicrously calls "legitimate". The EESC President merely called for global solidarity, and noted in passing that climate change is another case where this is advisable, since the tsunamis impact on some islands has been exacerbated (but not CAUSED) by global warming. While American conservatism and internationalism have never gotten on well, the formers case against the latter should be made without raising questions illegitimately based on invented facts. Speaking of invented facts, I was rather disappointed to see Huckabee quoted in the marquee at the link saying, in regard to the President, that most of us grew up going to boy scout meetings rather than madrasas. I'd have thought that beneath him (Huckabee, I mean) and regret that it seemingly isn't.

Oh get off it Joel. You environmental nut jobs blame EVERYTHING on global warming. And when that doesn't work, you change tack and call it Climate Change. Then run and try to figure out a way to tax us for it.

Just the other day the EPA was trying to figure out a way to tax people for dust FFS ... Invented facts is right.

And you say others don't have a right to use the word legitimate? LMAO

AND .. when I was growing up I went to boy scout meetings .. butnot madrassas ... that isn't an invented fact Joel. It's the truth. Get over yourself already.

He presented several focus groups with "alternative" descriptions of global warming, and found that "climate change" tested best, for the same reasons it remains populars with people in denial: Retreating glaciers after the last Ice Age qualify as "climate change" and no one would say they were a bad thing. It's an Orwellian term, but according to Wikipedia Luntz considers that a complement because "To be 'Orwellian' is to speak with absolute clarity, to be succinct, to explain what the event is, to talk about what triggers something happening… and to do so without any pejorative whatsoever." Hence I don't use the term "climate change" any more than I'd describe a wreck as "a car buying opportunity".

While I'm sure you went to plenty of Boy Scout meetings as a kid, what I took issue with was Huckabees suggesting that the Indonesian public schools Obama intended in Indonesia were madrassas (not to mention the implication that all madrassas are evil; "madrassa" is just "school" in Arabic, and if you were to say, in Arabic, where your kids spend most of each weekday, you'd have to say they're in a madrassa, because that's the word). Obama attended St. Francis of Assissi school in Indonesia, too; is Huckabee condemning the Catholic "madrassa" also? Neither school is called by that term in Indonesia, and both would be in, say, Iran. It sounds like Huckabee is criticizing Obama for having a non-American stepfather and/or dredging up the old "the President is a terrorist because he went to a MADRASSA (even though only people who think he's a terrorist call it that" insanity, both of which I thought were beneath Huckabee (they certainly should be).

I think Republicans should stop using "legitimate". I do not think it means what they think it means - 16/03/2011 04:11:14 PM 736 Views
there are enough carzies on the left to make things like this easy for Rush - 16/03/2011 04:20:47 PM 682 Views
So it doesn't matter that no one said it as long as he can plausibly claim they did. - 16/03/2011 06:58:17 PM 607 Views
well since it is taken out of context it is hard to say where Rush was going with it - 16/03/2011 07:19:46 PM 706 Views
Um... he stated where he was going with it. - 16/03/2011 07:30:02 PM 674 Views
