I guess the desire to make it look like they were doing something good overrode sense.

They didn't really have time to wait around for Qatar. It was going to be 48hours till they were ready, and in that time too many tanks would have been ensconsed in Benghazi to make any difference.

Lets be real, the resolution was passed and action taken as Gaddafi was banging on Benghazis door. So if you were going to do anything you had to do it then, last chance.

Fair point. But even waiting till Qatar had announced (in a more prominent way) that it was going to be sending help (or asking Qatar to announce it before the first strike) would have been a sensible move. Now it just looks like Us vs Them, and I think that was probably Gadaffi's plan.
