A friend showed me a picture of his girlfriend, who was a train wreck in the looks department. "What striking eyes!" I said. He was happy and I didn't lie.


My point was that everyone, regardless of looks, will get told that they have nice eyes. Including good looking people! I get told that I have pretty eyes once in a while, doesn't mean I'm ugly. (But it is rare, thankfully. Compliments from straight men tend to be all encompassing/general while compliments from gay mean and women tend to be super specific like about skin or eyelashes)

Oh and of course- "nice/great smile" is certainly in the same category as "nice eyes". It just doesn't mean anything. It's the compliment that takes no effort or judgment whatsoever.
