I've met people who genuinely have very nice eyes and it's one of the first things you notice about their face.

Of course, it's still a perfect generic compliment.


Totally true. But think about these people with striking eyes- maybe they had really well shaped eye brows that highlighted the eyes and complemented the shape of the face? Thick, long eye lashes? High cheekbones? High forehead? It's unlikely that the eyes were on their own. And it's totally natural to notice people's eyes and smiles, not paying attention to the supporting features.
