My mom used to have dreams like that, usually about relatives. Joel Send a noteboard - 13/04/2011 02:25:45 AM
When I was in college I had a terrible vivid dream where I was in a car with my parents and some of my college friends and suddenly a car crossed the median of the highway and hit our car. I survived but most of the other people were dead. It made me uneasy for about six months and then I had another dream where the same thing happened, but the car missed us. I thought about how silly it was to dream about this, and two days later that same accident happened on the same highway where I dreamed it happening, killing about six people from the same family in a car. I had a similar one where I was in a terrible plane crash, then had the dream again where I wasn't on the plane and the next morning after the second dream was the Air France disaster in the Atlantic.

I seem to remember telling you about the dream where my business partner and I were in a conference room looking at glossy photos of Russian politicians and we had to choose one. I tried to choose Alexander Lebed but I was reminded that we picked him "last time" and couldn't pick him again, so I said, "I guess it has to be Yeltsin. But it's too bad. I liked him." We left the room and sat down in a big room in a funeral home. A man came by with a huge, tall carafe of vodka and poured us two shots. My business partner went to hit his glass against mine but I said, "No, you don't touch the glasses when someone has died." I then woke up, turned on the TV and saw that Yeltsin had just died. The timing was absolutely eerie.

Either way, if you haven't had dreams come true, don't worry. And if you have, things could change. Besides, why would you want to get into a minivan in the first place? They're so declassé.

Often, and she hated it because she felt powerless on top of her grief; it got so bad she prayed they would stop. Say what you like, but they did--with one exception of which I am more aware than I would like. Once when I was rooming with moondog she called long distance and insisted they wake me so she could tell me about a dream where she was in a hospital and a doctor explained that I had died. She was very scared and worried on the phone and said she wanted me to be on my guard because the doctor said I had been stabbed in a manner, location and circumstances where I would not have expected it. To say I did not heed her warning would be an understatement, but I still have a scar about a quarter inch from my jugular where a crackhead stuck one of the kitchen knives in me a week later in the living room after asking me to pray for his family (easily the stupidest moment of my life; I literally cannot list all the additional warning signs I consciously ignored that day).

Again, take it for what it is worth, but she also insists she had another dream. People were surrounded, herded and chased by monstrous lion headed flying things, and screamed in agony but did not die when the creatures drove barbed tails through them. People fled in terror before one only to run toward another, but they still ran solely to gain a moments respite. You may recognize the similarities with this; mom says she never read it until years later and only then thought she knew what she had dreamed. Maybe she simply forgot having read it before, or heard retained a subconscious memory of someone talking about it, but when she told me about it in the context of the many relatives who died within a month of her dreaming they would, it stuck with me, and her later dream about me only reinforced it. These days when she tells me she had a nightmare about me, I listen; if nothing else, it does no harm.
