Being picky about books is very different from insisting that there be some books.

"The only book that I read is the Bible. Other than that, I'm not a book reader.
I cringed.
I mainly like contemporary Christian music: Newsboys and TobyMac are a couple of my favorites."
I would cringe, but I used to listen to Christian music as well, so I can hardly complain.
(Also, contemporary with what? That's one of my silly bugbears...)
There was more to it but... that was the important bit.
I wrote him back with what I hope was a very polite message:
"Hello.
Thank you so much for messaging me. You are quite a handsome guy! You seem very accomplished, kind, and thoughtful- all really important things!
Having said that, I am not sure we would get along very well.
I am an avid reader and I think reading books and talking about them is a pretty important thing in my life.
I have a rather eclectic taste in music and rarely, if ever, listen to contemporary Christian music.
Thank you for messaging me, and I wish you all the best in your search!
That was very polite – it said everything you needed to without actually saying it! Of course, if he's not that bright he might not get the message...
~g~ "
*sigh*
I am a snob, aren't I?
A snob is when your standards are set too high. To have gone out with that guy you'd have to have been desperate. You know full well it would have been a waste of time which you could be using to find someone better.
ON TO THE SURVEY BIT!
_________________________________________________________________
1. Have you ever dated someone who doesn't read?
No.
2. Is reading important enough to you that you wouldn't date someone because they didn't read?
I don't think I'd be asking people "Do you read books?" It's just that if they didn't read, they'd most likely be not very intelligent (though I'm sure exceptions do exist), and I don't think a relationship between me and person of low intelligence could ever work out.
3. Do you think music is fundamental enough to your life that it would factor into who you dated?
No, but it would get quite annoying if they listened to rap or something while I was around. In general, though, I'm pretty un-picky with music.
4. Have you been on any dates lately?
Yes, I took Rebekah out for pizza and a film a couple of weeks ago. Two for the price of one. Go Orange Wednesdays!
5. Where would you suggest a book lover find... a lover?
A book website, much like this one. You and I both know it can happen
. Although you should probably try a few different ones, to broaden your chances.

I thought you handled it rather well. Looking for someone compatible does not make you a snob.
