Today I got a message from someone on an online dating site that contained the following:
"The only book that I read is the Bible. Other than that, I'm not a book reader.
That's seriously scary. I hope he reads it for the comedic values?
I mainly like contemporary Christian music: Newsboys and TobyMac are a couple of my favorites."
Perhaps not then... This is the point where you back away slowly and try to avoid eye contact. Make sure to have a shotgun ready.
ON TO THE SURVEY BIT!
1. Have you ever dated someone who doesn't read?
Uh. Nope. Of course, 'dating' is a bit of a strange concept here, but I did most of that while at uni, and people there tend to read, otherwise they leave very soon.
2. Is reading important enough to you that you wouldn't date someone because they didn't read?
Probably. I wouldn't say that the reading in itself is a deal breaker, but I have very little in common with people who don't read, so pretty much everything would be strange about such a person.
3. Do you think music is fundamental enough to your life that it would factor into who you dated?
No. If it is not eye-twitchingly bad. I am honestly not much of a music person, so I don't care much either way. I could perhaps be annoyed with a person who wants music around herself all the time, but seriously, I'd get over it.
4. Have you been on any dates lately?
Nope. Have some excuses, but really, it is mostly me not asking for dates at the moment.
5. Where would you suggest a book lover find... a lover?
Well, obviously a bookstore. They have plenty of lovers just sitting on the shelves. But you know. I don't honestly think that question was for me, you are usually a lot smarter than asking me for advice on such matters.

I am a book snob.

Being picky about books is very different from insisting that there be some books.

I thought you handled it rather well. Looking for someone compatible does not make you a snob.
