Maybe someone who doesn't read books still reads newspapers. So you can talk about things going on in the world. You could talk about life experiences. You can talk about your goals and ambitions, as well as daily life. You can talk about stuff you see on tv.
It's pretty rare that I'm going to have in depth conversations with other people about books... Usually it's just my sister. What we do desire in conversation is someone intelligent and friendly, and we're assuming that this person loves to read just like us. In my daily life even if I meet someone who says he likes sci-fi fantasy it probably means stuff like the shannara series or piers anthony. Not something I am interested in discussing, so...
YES! I have standards!
But you Couldn't BE Sherlock Holmes without READING! I mean... READING! It seems so fundamental to me... I might have dated someone like that when I was 18... but now... what would we talk about?!?
Me neither... and I don;t go to many concerts but... I think the attitude is kind of important. I mean I don;t usually listen to country music but I wouldn't say I ONLY listen to pop or something, you know?
Me too, unfortunately.
Ha! That sounds like fun. ^_^

I am a snob, aren't I?
Not according to my definition. A book snob is someone who rejects certain books as beneath them (there are therefore levels of snobbishness). So, if he had said he read mainly crime or mainly fantasy, and you had said that was not good enough, that would make you a book snob. Requiring a reader at all seems to me something else. Merely an expression of standards

YES! I have standards!
2. Is reading important enough to you that you wouldn't date someone because they didn't read?
They would have to have some fairly amazing qualities to make up for that lack, at least. Like be Sherlock Holmes.

3. Do you think music is fundamental enough to your life that it would factor into who you dated?
Mno. I approach music more on my own. I rarely discuss it with people unless I go to a concert. Besides, here I know from experience that conversion is possible.
Me neither... and I don;t go to many concerts but... I think the attitude is kind of important. I mean I don;t usually listen to country music but I wouldn't say I ONLY listen to pop or something, you know?
4. Have you been on any dates lately?
Heh. No. I don't think I have ever been on a date. It is quite foreign to me.
Me too, unfortunately.
5. Where would you suggest a book lover find... a lover?
Librarything?
RAFO (seems to work for some)
The library (but no talking! just note-passing)
Ha! That sounds like fun. ^_^
Bookshops?
I am a book snob.

Being picky about books is very different from insisting that there be some books.

I thought you handled it rather well. Looking for someone compatible does not make you a snob.
