Barron's is actually what I was planning on using. Unfortunately, the GRE is changing (I believe in July of 2011) so I'm holding off until then. That was news to me until this weekend... granted: that was the first time I had logged on to buy a book. Did you find the exam difficult?

Yeah, there's a revised exam starting August 1, 2011. Depending on how much studying you want to do and have time to do, you could probably take the exam before that (if you'd rather not wait).

I did not find the exam difficult at all. I am someone who tests very well, though, and I took it last year, during my junior year of college, which probably helps with the test-taking mindset.

Important notes about the test: the curve on the quantitative portion is very different from the curve on the verbal portion. A perfect 800Q is only 94th percentile, whereas 740V is 99th percentile. I only studied for the essay questions by reading through the scoring guide provided by ETS; they're pretty straightforward argue a point, criticize an argument stuff. Barron's provides a very good simulation of the computerized testing environment, and it's a good idea to get accustomed to it, as it's somewhat idiosyncratic.

Yeah, it was Nagel - good for you for catching the reference. Are you in the field? It's been years since I read him, but I remember Nagel's point being about broad ontology (i.e. how can we ever know what it's like to be something else?). But: years. I should read him again while drunk, which always makes for awesome philosophy thoughts.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

No, I'm actually a physicist. I just happened to read a blog post recently which discussed Nagel and subsequent research into that topic. The post is linked below.
