What bothers me about it is that close to half of all American households have pretty much no stake in the country and its direction. One can look at it as the poor getting a free ride. Or one can look at it as the poor being given no further reason to participate in politics or, possibly, to engage in civil disobedience. Easy enough to see both facets.

Of course it could also be that a McJob simply doesn't pay well enough to allow one to be a stakeholder in society and put food on the table. I can't fathom how one person, let alone a family of four, can make it on the income mentioned in the video.
