But to be honest I doubt I will find anything to make me believe he can win the nomination. He may win the Liberals Favorite Conservative award but if he contuses to thumb his nose at the base is dead. He could get away with saying he believes in evolution without it hurting him but when comes off as snickering at Perry because Perry does believe it he alienates huge parts of the base and even a large number of conservative democrats. If you want to be president it probably isn't a good idea to ridicule a belief held by 40% of the country it is even a worse idea if most of those people are in the party you are trying to get nominated to. Same thing with AGW, it has about the same split and if you come off as looking down on the people who disagree with you and those people are the ones you have to have to get nominated and to man phones lines if you are nominated then are in trouble. Being right on taxes and immigration are not enough if you offend people and most people find having their beliefs be ridiculed and dismissed offensive. No matter how qualified he might otherwise be his failure to grasp those basic truths leads me to believe he is to out of touch with the republican base to win. The fact the he tends to make the mistakes liberal elitist make when they look at the rest of country really doesn't do much to create any separation between him and his elitist in chief former boss.
Besides do we really need two boring but safe rich Mormons in the race?
Now if survives and is still around when the primary comes to Texas I might consider voting for him which is another sign that he isn't a good fit for the republican base.

Jon Huntsman, the No-Drama Conservative (he speaks like a diplomat but he is no moderate)

At the risk of extended tangent, that's a reasonable premise, but not one that leads to atheism.
