Hardly. Good cheddar is nice enough, but the cheaper kinds are somewhat hit and miss in my experience - and in any case I think there are tons of cheeses that are a lot better. In the US you almost need a specialized shop to encounter anything other than cheddar and "Swiss cheese", though, in my experience at least. No wonder people start thinking cheddar is the best cheese, if it's essentially the only cheese...
Tastes like salted vinegar. Otherwise I think cheddar is a good all-rounder.
Ireland is much better than the US on the cheese front, it appears. My local supermarket has a good twenty varieties, and this is in a small town barely deserving of the title 'town'.

Cheddar is okay. What isn't okay is the US doesn't seem to have much of anything else.

Those are processed, yes. As is "American" cheese. As is most cheese you find in supermarkets.

<3 Brie, but I don't like the rind either, and I'm not embarrassed about not eating it.
