I suppose in a time when weddings tend to run what I'd consider a decent down payment for a house an elderly lady sending a distant grandkid a birthday cake is not that awful. I've seen people run the bidding up into the triple digits on pies at auctions enough times it shouldn't surprise me, but that's generally for charity causes.
