If you were there, you would know - people were breathing dead people's ashes for weeks and months afterwards. The salvage work was extremely dangerous and difficult, and it was done by volunteers. Should they have said, "not my problem... I think I'll just stay home... Let someone else take care of it, this was not in my contract, I am not getting hazard pay" ? (I personally don't know about payments out to families of those who died, but healthcare for the workers - oh my god, I can't believe you have the gall to question that as the freaking RIGHT and humane and bare-boned civilized thing to do.)
