There is a problem with compromise in this situation and lot of it the way it is being framed

The media is selling it as cuts in spending for increases in taxes then acting like the conservatives are unreasonable for not going along. The basic problem with that argument is that conservatives are more concerned with lowering taxes than they are with reducing spending at this moment. Agree with them or not but the belief of most conservatives is the best bet to get the economy moving again is to reduce regulations and lower taxes. A "compromise" that doesn't accomplish one or the other of those things holds no appeal to conservative and it shouldn't. One of the problems with trying to define what the other side believes instead of trying to understand what they believe is it makes it very hard to understand their motives.
Ok so increasing taxes on people making 1million+ is also NOT ok with Republicans

Too bad for them, any pledge stands or falls on its own merits just like in real life

Sure it does: Pledging to do what one wanted to do anyway is rhetoric, not principle.
