Likely so; I have the same problem, but usually when writing by hand. Joel Send a noteboard - 05/10/2011 09:53:08 PM
Now I will admit my grammar is not outstanding but I typically don't have trouble being understood when speak. My typing is so slow my head is a sentence or two ahead of my fingers. When I was in college I would either write my papers out by hand and have my wife type them or type them myself and then have her edit them for typing mistakes. I ask but she isn't really willing to do the same for my on line post. I don't know if I am putting more effort into editing now than I used to, I think my typing is simply getting better. I know I am faster even if backspace is still the most used key on my keyboard at least now I can type without looking at the keys.

Either way using your for you're isn't really a grammar issue it is a spelling issue. I will agree that I need to get better at typing what I mean to say but I don't believe improving my grammar will make me more understandable.

Syntax is usually my biggest trouble with reading your posts, I agree, and it is not a problem unique in you (or foreign to me,) only more pronounced. Certainly it is easy for the brain to get ahead of the fingers; I am fairly certain I SPEAK faster than 70wpm. :P That said, it is definitely not a case of you being clearly understood despite poor grammar, but of sometimes being misunderstood despite good grammar due to difficulty typing. On the upside, typing out long wotmania posts has probably done more for my typing speed and accuracy than anything else (including three and a half years of typing classes between junior high and high school) so the problem is likely to correct itself with due diligence. It usually is not a BIG problem anyway, but every now and then I do find myself posting a reply mainly to get an explanation of what I am replying to in the first place. ;)
