Or it could have been that Italy impressed the world with the most awful performance by a ruling world champion (no matter how ludicrously undeserved) in the history of the tournament, but then NZ did play other games than Italy.
I guess I'll have to agree with you, then, for now anyway. One suspects Australia and/or England might threaten NZ's position again in the near future, though what with none of the three sports having a World Cup for another three years at least, if I'm not mistaken, they'll have their title for a while.
