Yes, the only two teams that can realistically threaten this position are Australia and England Colonel Logain Send a noteboard - 24/10/2011 11:57:59 PM
Or it could have been that Italy impressed the world with the most awful performance by a ruling world champion (no matter how ludicrously undeserved) in the history of the tournament, but then NZ did play other games than Italy

Of course France's effort in the 2002 World Cup, as defending champions, was pretty poor too...they were eliminated in the pool stages without scoring a goal.

I guess I'll have to agree with you, then, for now anyway. :P One suspects Australia and/or England might threaten NZ's position again in the near future, though what with none of the three sports having a World Cup for another three years at least, if I'm not mistaken, they'll have their title for a while.

The next Rugby World Cup is in 2015 and the next Rugby League World Cup is in 2013 (both hosted by England). And of these 3 teams, England near always goes best at the football world cup, so they may well hold the triple crown in either 2015 (if they win the football WC in Brazil) or 2018 (if they win in Russia).

I have nothing to add. I just wanted to be included in this thread.
