Just providing Jens with a viewpoint. I would like to say "they don't even show support for my most basic rights? Fuck 'em." But I can't, for my example and other reasons (obviously).
...usually such basic view points already tell me enough about a politician to conclude that we won't agree much on anything.
I would love for this to be true. Unfortunately, it seems that our parties are oddly split. I have Libertarian and fiscally conservative tendencies, so what do I do about the things I think are important on that side of the scale? How much do I put up with from either side, and which issue is currently more important? For me, that's what this election is all about. I don't like Romney or Paul overly much (don't hate either, just apathetic), but I do have to look at what I think they are actually going to do. It's not a nice place to feel stuck in, because the rhetoric makes it all a huge guessing game.
Will Romney actually attack abortion, birth control, etc, while figuring out some helpful things for the economy?
Will Obama figure out some helpful things for the economy while helping supporting the rights I favor? Who the hell knows, but part of me thinks that as we get older, the religious conservatives won't matter. Already we are seeing gay rights and other agendas coming forward and winning, and republicans haven't suddenly disappeared - they can't all be voting against.
Eh, I don't know. That just turned into a Joel, sorry. Right now, I think my biggest worry is the "NO NEW TAXES!!" and the "LET'S GET THE PROGRAMS, SCHOOLS, ETC!" Which takes me back to where I started.
