Your husband/boyfriend is in the navy. You find out that he is going to be working with a sizable portion of women. Women that are around his age, probably have more common interests than you do with him, and are varying degrees of attractive. I am not sure how long the cruises are. Probably awhile. I don't suppose you would be anymore worried than you would be if your boyfriend/husband were going on an extended business trip with a female colleague?
Honest question - Would you be a little worried?
That was in response to your statement that if they weren't professional enough to control themselves that they shouldn't be on a submarine. People are human. There is going to be temptation. Do you know people that are good, moral people that maybe spent a little too much time with someone that they worked with and fell for them? I think it could happen to just about anyone given the right circumstances and temptation.
As for myself, that was not the first worry I had. It wasn't even my second concern. My first thought was that if they do it, it needed to be a small percentage of women and that they shouldn't be forced to be together too much because...and this is not PC...women tend to be petty, backstabbing bitches when they work together. (They can also be funny, loving and supportive. There are good times too. I love the drama free times. I just wish there were more.) Having a large portion of men tends to add vital leaven. That might be workable. I am sure that out there somewhere there are women that would get along just fine. I just haven't seen in happen on a large scale. It always seems to go better with at least a 50-50 mix of men and better yet when there is a higher percentage of men. It seems that everyone behaves better.
Flame me all you like. I would be happy to hear that I am wrong and that my experience has been narrow.

As I understand it, there are very good reasons why they don't let women on submarines.
