Maybe you should try looking at who you sources for who Romney is and for that matter what conservatives are because the real problem seems to be he didn't match your perception. Well if that perception was based on what an unfriendly media has said about him it is hardly surprising you were shocked when you saw him without the funhouse mirror.

The DNC came out and said their strategy was to define Romney before people got a chance to know him. That worked to degree, as you have evidenced, but now the left seems to feel cheated that he won't wear the monkey suite. That reaction in the end may end up hurting Obama more than the debate did because the president will seem more in touch by telling Americans they didn’t see what they thought they saw.

One thing you should look at to tell you if Romney has betrayed the conservative ideals he ran on in the primary is how conservatives saw that debate. Out of truly far right whack jobs who always hated him conservatives are not crying foul that he tricked them and instead are celebrating that he did an excellent job defining and explaining his positions against a president who seemed incapable of getting beyond tired talking points that only the faithful believe. Only the people who bought into the DNC smear campaign are upset.
