You can't just assume someone has the motivation you want them to have.

I know many people that love their gay child/sibling (and their partners) that oppose changing the definition of marriage. Their views are informed by deeply held religious convictions, not hatred. You may think they are wrong, stupid, misinformed, etc. But to say they are filled with hate or driven by hate is wrong. In my experience the great majority are not.
If you want to use a debatable definition of bigot to automatically include anybody that opposes changing the definition of marriage, well our definitions of words are colored by our world view and that is at least defensible.
Labeling everybody that opposes you as "hate-filled" is just a way to dehumanize them. It is the oldest trick in the book.

A little learning is a dangerous thing.

I have to agree with that one. Most people come out in order to be more honest with their family.

Sorry, that is just an attempted role-reversal; objecting to hatred is not the "real hatred."

In addition, the bible doesn't forbid it. The bible is not a monolithic work, but an anthology.

I think he has a good point. It just shouldn't be generalized so far as he is doing.
