Sure he was elected for a second 6-year term, but when he ran, who was seriously going to challenge him? It's extremely uncommon for someone to contest an incumbent from the same party, and SC is a quite Red state, so a challenge from the Dems vs. and incumbent means they probably just offered some sacrificial lamb. I'm sure plenty of people would have preferred other options, but were stuck with what they had because the election system, frankly, sucks.
New blood is usually a good thing... I'm all for term limits to get rid of career politicos. Senate should probably be 2 terms max, and House 3 terms or 4 terms. Any more than that and it becomes really hard for new ideas to be discussed.

Senator DeMint (R, SC, tea party leader) will leave Senate, will be head of largest con. think tank

Well it's been a couple years, 6 years is a long term compared to 2 or 4, maybe different standard
