I'd like to see some additional sourcing and corroboration on this one as well because, on its face, such an instruction appears to be contrary to actual Florida black letter law (776.041.2 which explicitly states when an "aggressor" can claim self defense).
Additionally, the word "follow" appears nowhere in the self defense statute.
