As opposed to being elected? I don't see any real benefit. The Louisiana legislature is comprised of morons who couldn't get a real job in their communities and were shunted off to Baton Rouge.

Again, it's definitely troubling, but it's difficult to be upset when the results are rulings against segregation. I am uncomfortable with the precedent it's set, though.
