Let's face it, if the rest of the North Korean regime had wanted to dump him and stop being an international pariah, they'd have done so about three seconds after he succeeded his dad.

Actually I'd say many terrorist organizations would be more affected by losing their leader than a totalitarian dictatorship like North Korea's. Yeah, breaking the Kim family's monopoly on power might cause instability - but that's the thing (and in fact the reason China keeps semi-supporting North Korea), arguably the only regime worse than a totalitarian dictatorship with nukes run by a nutcase, is a totalitarian dictatorship with nukes in which different factions are fighting for power openly.
