I could (sort of) understand it if the biological "father" as you call him were involved in the child's life, but he's not. He left 5 years ago and has never seen the child since. Why should he get the privilege of that little boy having his name, when he clearly hasn't earned it? And of what use is it to the boy to carry the name of somebody who made the choice to have nothing to do with him?
