OK, so I know less than nothing about gay bar etiquette, but I know an awful lot about ordinary pub etiquette
It is perfectly fine and acceptable for you to go out by yourself and have a drink. If you would feel more comfortable, bring a magazine or a book you can dip into, and go at an after-work time, rather than 11.30 on Friday night. Just go with happy hour to start with, and see how you feel about it.

Need social advice. Is it... you know... allowed to go to a bar by yourself?

If all you want is some place to have a good beer, then don't go to a LGBT bar.

I think I can overcome the urge to dance, as long as it won't make me a pariah.

No, I'll reply in full/send noteboard. We can arrange something so you don't go alone.
