You need to be 50 or older to be in the AARP. Medicare doesn't kick in till 65. The AARP supports the health care overhall for it will help the people that don't have medicare including the people that are 50 to 65.

It is not because the AARP is competing against medicare. In fact the AARP offers medicare advantage plans, they make money off the very policy obama wants to cut.

--------------------------------

Currently you have two options with Medicare. The normal government run medicare or medicare part c which is called medicare advantage. If you enroll in a medicare advantage program then you are enrolled in a private health insurance plan, but the government picks up the tab. The government pays upfront to the insurance companies what the government normally pays on average for a medicare beneficiary, plus an additional 12 percent.

Obama is proposing cutting this subsidy, this overpayment for medicare advantage since studies have shown you don't receive better health outcomes with medicare advantage vs normal medicare and it costs the government an additional 12% for each medicare beneficiary. Instead we will use this 12% plus other revenue sources to provide subsidies to people that currently can't afford insurance.

You know mean testing our government aid, instead of a general entitlement due to age. Pretty much very similar to what Bush was proposing with social security. You know mean testing, the conservative option with entitlements.
