Education does have its own intrinsic value, yes? Perhaps not enough to compensate for the financial drawbacks, but it seems like those aren't huge for Amy (she mentioned elsewhere that she has a Pell Grant). There are many people, myself included, who would not feel content without a solid intellectual grounding. I'm sure you know (as well as anyone) how a good college education can enhance enjoyment of books, culture, and conversation.

That said, I agree it's not necessary for everyone (and not everyone derives satisfaction from the things mentioned above, anyway). Good points about the technical fields; I wish those career choices were afforded a bit more respect.
